The problem with NSW Courts is judges are not accountable, juries are misled and justice is a game. It is obvious to all that the big end of town get looked after – the wealthier you are, means you get a better lawyer and a better result. This clip pretty well sums up what is wrong with Australian courts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHFa30pD3N8

You're typically selected to serve in the closest court to where you live. In addition to the jury stipend, they pay you a travel allowance, which is larger the further away you live (<a href="http://www.sheriff.nsw.gov.au/lawlink/local_courts/ll_localcourts.nsf/pages/SHO_jury_payments" rel="nofollow">details here</a>). This covers the vast majority of people but I'm not sure what they do if you live really far away.

Thanks for the info, I might stay on the jury roll now. Just out of curiosity.
Do you know if they put you up in a motel if you live ages away or do they just send you home?
